Retail Restructuring

Retail restructuring

HMR has the retailing knowledge, capital and resources to help identify and facilitate cost-cutting, market repositioning and high-yield, liquidity-building restructuring strategies.

Strategic store closings
HMR prides itself on its professionalism and flexibility in delivering leading-edge, innovative store closing and related services to an international community of retailers. Chief among our priorities in connection with this process are the following:

1.   Recovery maximization
Time and time again, we pay more for inventory than our competitors. We are able to do so because of our breadth and depth of experience at every managerial and supervisory position, as well as our ability to plan and execute the industry’s most successful sale events.

2.   Transitioning Customers
We have tried and true methods of transitioning customers to your go-forward stores while achieving the goal of high recovery.

3.   Brand Protection
Having worked with the most notable retailers in the United States and Europe, we understand the importance of balancing two competing interests: maximization of  short-term recoveries with protection of your company’s most important long-term asset: its brand and the associated goodwill.

4.    Making Your Life Easy
Instituting strategic change places great demands on senior managers, who do not need to be distracted by the store closing process. You will find us the most user-friendly, flexible, accommodating and communicative asset disposition firm in the industry. We will assume all day-to-day operating responsibilities, treat your customers, employees and vendors with respect, and let your managers focus on the ongoing operations.

Excess and obsolete inventory monetization
HMR is recognized for its ability to help retailers convert overstocks and obsolete inventory into cash.  We will establish return expectations for the inventory, then pay for such inventory, up-front.  HMR has significant capital availability and no economic restraints that limit our ability to pay top prices.  Furthermore, in many transactions our arrangement can include sharing in all recoveries above a target.  We can also provide services on a fee basis.

Furniture, fixtures and equipment monetization
As part of a strategic store or warehouse closing program, or implementation of a new, system-wide store redesign program, HMR can help you recover higher value for your obsolete furniture, fixtures and equipment.  In connection with this process, HMR can provide:
·      Cash guarantees, up-front.
·      Reconstruction and reconditioning services for turnover.
·      Responsiveness to meet your deadlines, whether on large or small projects.

Interim store management and operation
Where it becomes necessary in a retail restructuring to outsource operations, HMR has the experience to step in and run the entire business platform, from merchandising to personnel administration, from advertising to loss prevention.

Real estate disposition and lease restructuring
Our affiliate, Hilco Real Estate, is a leader in solving retail real estate challenges.  Their experts can purchase, sell or sub-lease fee owned properties, restructure lease portfolios and mitigate leasehold obligations.  They can provide sale-leasebacks to help create additional liquidity.

Analytical services
We can help you rationalize your portfolio of stores to determine which are, or are likely to become, underperformers based on changes in consumer market conditions and real estate costs.  We can also assist in determining where your portfolio might be expanded to take advantage of new markets and growth opportunities.

Debt and Equity Placement
Is your company new to the capital markets, where guidance can be crucial?  Our affiliate, Hilco Corporate Finance, can advise retailers on alternative financing options and assist in negotiating the best possible terms.  Hilco knows equity, senior lending and mezzanine financing sources and what they are looking for.

Is there a financing need that cannot be met through current funding sources?
Has your access to capital been capped?  Perhaps your current lenders are no longer comfortable with your business model as it has evolved.  Hilco can assess your needs, analyze current obligations, determine an optimal financing structure, find funding sources and help negotiate favorable terms.

Do you need help understanding and mitigating the impact of debt on your business?
Should debt servicing become a problem, Hilco can review your existing credit facilities, confirm whether terms are at or above market, and work with lenders, present or new, to manage your cost of debt.
